What you think and say don't count until you do something. But I believe one need to think well before you do something. Help with the best intentions have often been rejected due to bad timing or cultural taboos, etc. When I look at blogs and comments I often get the impression that everybody likes to give their opinion, but rarely wants to get involved hands-on.
Josua, I agree with you on the fact that people like to give opinions but rarely want to get involved. Alot of people talk faster with their tongue than what their brains can think, and when they actually do think about it they realise that its just too much of an effort to actually do something!! I always say that one should live by example and that is why i chose practical involvement, besides one cannot give an opinion if you haven't even tried to do something about it yourself!
You can talk till you blue in the face and come up with the most exotic solutions, but if you not gonna do roll up your sleeves......nothings gonna happen! I'd rather work till i'm red in the face.....!
Of course the way to go is a bit of both - you can't also just dive into something and not know wheta lies beneath....a bit of specualtion will do no harm!

If all the academics and young professionals including the undergraduate can develop an attitude of planting back to where they come from, the problem in our society can be addressed, 1.specifically the undergraduate that have got an influence in the student leadership (if they can make sure that out of their budget they take a minimum percentage that will focus on society projects) 2. if the academics in different faculties can give the student a project that will practically assists the society
